Why is communication important in mathematics?

Mathematics is a language just like English.

In order for someone to communicate their answers to an examiner or a project manager, they need to be able to understand and interpret the jargon, notation and conventions of mathematics.

When mathematicians undertake the processes of mathematical inquiry or modelling, they must communicate their results. This will involve using mathematical language and notation and writing a mathematical report.

What's involved?

There are three different aspects to mathematical communication:

Decoding

Notation
